Positions: Meat Cutter/Counter Worker (Part-Time Opportunity Available)

ABOUT THE ROLES

We are looking for hardworking, efficient, experienced and customer-focused and experienced individuals to join our team.

General Requirements for Both Roles:

  • Availability: Must be available for a flexible schedule, including daytimes, weekdays, and weekends. Shifts include hours before the store opens and after it closes.

  • Physicality: Ability to stand for long periods (up to 8 hours) and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Standards: A strict commitment to food safety, sanitation, store procedures and experience handling various meat products.

MEAT CUTTER/COUNTER WORKER

Ideal for those with technical experience in meat processing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cut, trim, bone, tie, and grind meats (beef, pork, poultry) to store standards.

  • Prepare roasts using boning knives, skewers, and twine.

  • Manage inventory: receive meat, check invoices for quality/quantity, and store products orderly.

  • Create attractive display counters to catch the shopper’s eye.

  • Fulfill special custom orders for guests.

  • Provide prompt, courteous service at the Butcher Shop counter.

  • Wrap, weigh, label, and price meat products.

  • Maintain stock: fill seafood displays, frozen products, and prepared items.

  • Assist butchers with tasks like making hamburger patties and prep work.

  • Ensure the work area is spotless and meets high sanitation standards.

Positions: Meat Manager (Full Time/Part-Time Opportunity Available)

Experience: 3 - 5 years (preferred)

Meat Manager Responsibilities:
Operations Management - Ordering and Inventory:

  • Place orders for meat products, packaging, supplies/ingredients from suppliers, ensuring timely delivery and adequate stock levels.

  • Monitor inventory levels closely to prevent stockouts or overstocking.

  • Manage the flow of incoming and outgoing merchandise.

  • Email, Internet, Data Entry and Management Skills

Pricing and Merchandising:

  • Determine and implement competitive pricing strategies for meat/seafood products.

  • Create attractive and eye-catching displays to showcase meat/seafood products effectively.

  • Develop and implement promotional strategies to increase sales (features)

  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices.

Quality Control:

  • Inspect incoming meat/seafood products for quality, freshness, and adherence to safety standards. Ensure employees are following proper protocol as well.

  • Ensure proper storage and handling of meat products to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.

  • Monitor and address any issues with product quality or safety.

  • Full knowledge of meat department operations and skills

  • Perform other duties assigned by store manager

Staff Management: - Hiring and Training:

  • Recruit, hire, and train meat department staff, including butchers and counter workers.

  • Ensure staff are properly trained in food safety, sanitation, and customer service.

  • Have a great understanding of how to prepare special cuts of meat for customers

  • Requires mastery of specific meat cutting techniques. *MUST*

Scheduling and Supervision:

  • Create and manage employee schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels and the following percentage for labour.

  • Supervise and guide staff in their daily tasks.

  • Address any employee concerns or disciplinary issues.

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service: Assist customers with product selection, answer questions, and address any concerns.

  • Build relationships with customers: Develop rapport with regular customers and provide personalized service.

  • Handle customer complaints effectively: Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally. Demonstrate commitment to customer and employee relations.

  • Safety and Sanitation:

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment: Ensure the meat department is clean, organized, and free of hazards

  • Comply with all food safety and sanitation regulations.

  • Monitor and maintain equipment and ensure it is in good working order.

  • Following the store safety procedures.

Financial Performance:

  • Monitor department sales and profitability: Analyze sales data to identify trends and areas for improvement

  • Control costs and minimize waste: Implement strategies to reduce waste and improve cost efficiency.

  • Control and submit monthly Transfers from suppling products to other departments in store or what is taken from other departments during the month

  • Achieve sales and profit targets set by management.
